MODEL DRAWINGS
The works in the series are graphite and glicée print on paper, they evolved from a collaboration
with a fashion photographer, Olivia Beasley, and conversations relating to the phantasmagorical
and séance. The fashion-based images used in this series are instantly familiar and impacting,
establishing an intimacy and remoteness, an attraction and coldness. This tension activates a stronger
sense of desire and want, images containing complex social syntax. The graphite intervention amplifies
this tentative balance, in one sense erasing and in another filling-in or adding, both enhancing and
disrupting the work’s surface.
