Half of those words I didn't understand :( Or more: the combination and order of those words...
Haha. I tried messing around with solar flare by hand drawing a "shape" like the hexagon and trying to color it yellow and blending it. Never worked :/
And I try color adjustment and blur, etc. But those are about the only two things I have conquered.

It's just a process of handpainting and colour mapping. You can dual tone map with a blend mode or use a gradient map (usually from blue/green to yellow/orange)
